On Thursday Massimo Moratti resiged as Inter’s honorary president and the reasons as to why the former owner brought an end to his 19-year association with the Nerazzurri are slowly starting to emerge.

Moratti retained a 30 percent stake in the club after Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir became the majority shareholder last year, and the 69 year old petroleum tycoon was appointed to the position of honorary president, working in tandem with the new Inter owners.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that this arrangement has come to an end after serious disagreements emerged between Moratti and the new administration. The Italian newspaper details four main points of contention which led to his resignation.

The former president has been infuriated by new CEO Michael Bolingbroke’s public comment’s about his disastrous economic management of the club. Indeed, in the summer Moratti had asked the new management to avoid making public comment’s about the previous administration.

Moratti is also questioning Erick Thohir’s decision to purchase the club if the Indonesian feels so strongly that it is in perilous economic circumstances. He has pointed out that Thohir had eight months to scrutinse the club’s accounts and that he has taken out a massive €230 million loan to fund his loses.

The pair also clashed in the summer over the future of coach Walter Mazzarri, while Moratti was further upset by the manner in which Thohir dealt with the team’s old guard. The former president did not like the treatment of Inter icons from the treble winning side of 2010.

Morrati feels that Esteban Cambiasso, Ivan Cordoba, Deigo Milito and Walter Samuel were all forced from the club while Javier Zanetti was encouraged to retire by the new owners. Forty other employees have also lost their jobs since Thohir acquired the Nerazzurri.

Despite the clear diferences between himself and the new administration, Moratti has insisted that he will not sell his shares in the club.
