Montreal Impact’s Di Vaio announces retirement

Marco Di Vaio Montreal ImpactFormer Italy international and current Montreal Impact striker Marco Di Vaio has announced that he will retire at the end of the current MLS season.

The 38-year-old veteran will play his last professional game against DC United at Saputo Stadium in Montreal before hanging up his boots for good.

“After a 20-year career, I am pleased to announce that I will be retiring in Montreal as a member of the Impact,” he told reporters at a press conference.

“I am very proud of what I have accomplished over two decades as a pro.

“It was a dream of mine to play at the highest level and I will look to make the best of my final month as a player.”

Before joining Montreal in 2012, Di Vaio enjoyed a prolific career in Serie A notching up a total of 142 goals in 342 games for the likes of Juventus, Lazio, Parma, Salernitana, Genoa and Bologna.

He also enjoyed brief spells in Spain and France with Valencia and Monaco respectively.
