Honorary Inter president Massimo Moratti has revealed that he’s satisfied with the determination shown by the Biscione in their recent 2-2 draw with Napoli and hopes the club’s confidence in coach Walter Mazzarri can lead to more positive results.

The Nerazzurri were able to answer both of Jose Callejon’s late goals for the Partenopei which led to an exciting ending to the meeting between the two sides at the San Siro on Sunday, and the 69-year-old feels the grit demonstrated by the home side should lift the spirits of worried club president Erick Thohir.

Moratti spoke to Sky Sport Italia on Monday about the Milan side’s draw with Napoli and Inter’s struggles this season, while also commenting on what he would have done with Mazzarri if he were still leading the club.

“Comparisons are always important,” said the former Inter chief. “Yesterday I saw pride and determination, this is an important fact and is important for the growth of the team as well.

“Thohir becoming more of a fan? Having to cover certain charges have been forcing him to develop stronger feelings. He is, he suffers and is just as concerned as all of the other fans.

“Football is cruel and pragmatic, it always depends on results and the next game is always the one that counts the most.

“As long as he keeps this attitude and remains with the project everything will be fine, but if this feeling were to lessen then the club would be in trouble.

“Would I have sacked Mazzarri if I were still in charge? I shouldn’t be looked at as an example, I’ve fired a coach two days after winning a championship.

“We must have confidence, this will see us obtain positive results.”
