giuseppe iachini palermoPalermo coach Giuseppe Iachini has spoken of his relief after his side secured their first win of the Serie A season.

The Rosanero had been bottom of the table going into the clash with Cesena, and lost their last Serie A fixture 3-0 at Empoli, but a late header from Giancarlo Gonzalez gave the Sicilians a 2-1 win and a crucial first three points of the season.

“The lads deserved this victory,” Iachini told Sky Sport Italia.

“Apart from the Empoli game we’ve always had good performances and not had anything to show for them.

“Again today, the team gave it all out there on the field, we were not given anything and our opponents got a penalty. We were finally able to win, and now we have to continue in this fashion.

“The international break helped us, as after a negative game against Italy we had to rediscover ourselves.”

Following their first win of the campaign, Palermo face a daunting trip to Turin next week to take on champions Juventus.
