Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin believes that Lorenzo Tonelli’s goal for Empoli should have been disallowed during their 1-1 draw on Monday.

Tonelli scored a late equaliser to deny Genoa all three points and Perin feels that luck was not on Genoa’s side.

“It was a clear handball,” Perin told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

“It was unfair on us, as the referee made a clear mistake. I’m sorry because we wanted to give our fans a win after a difficult run of results.

“We played a good match and we were very unlucky not to win.”

Perin went on to talk about the atmosphere inside the Luigi Ferraris and his own form this season.

“The atmosphere was not hostile, the fans supported us throughout the game.

“I hope the fans understand that we are trying our best and that we are doing quite well in Serie A.

“I am happy with how I have progressed this season.

“Genoa have given me great confidence and I feel that I am slowly improving.”
