Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic has insisted that the Giallorossi’s embarrassing 7-1 defeat at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League isn’t indicative of the team’s true quality.

The Bosnian also said he feels that the loss in only a setback and the club remains on the right track and will be able to bounce back.

“If we hadn’t conceded so early the game would have been different,” said Pjanic to Sky Sport Italia.

“We let in two early goals, they didn’t give us any space and whenever we won the ball back in midfield we were closed down immediately.

“We weren’t able to put together four or five consecutive passes.”

Pjanic also spoke about how the defeat leaves Roma’s chances in the Champions League group stage.

“Now there are three games left and we are second but a game like this cannot happen again,” he continued.

“We expected something different, it is hard to accept this result and say anything intelligent.

“We need to get this result quickly out of minds and return to winning ways, starting on Saturday against Sampdoria.”

The former Lyon man was also asked about how surprised he was by the result and if the players expected to perform much better:

“I think that we’ve already displayed that,” he said.

“This isn’t the real Roma, I can’t explain what just happened.

“We weren’t able to keep the ball, we always had a defensive attitude and weren’t able to create anything.”
