Atalanta v NapoliAtalanta managed to hold onto a point against Napoli, drawing their match at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia 1-1.

La Dea did take the lead through German Denis, but moments after Luca Cigarini was sent off, Gonzalo Higuain levelled for the visitors.

The Argentine could have won the match in the 91st minute, but his penalty was saved by Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Sportiello.

Atalanta

Marco Sportiello – 8 – Matchsaver

Man of the match performance as he denied Hamsik, Callejon and Mertens on countless occasions. Saved the result with a wonderful penalty save on Higuain’s last minute effort.

Yohan Benalouane – 5.5 – Suffered

Was troubled all night by an inspired Mertens. Has his goalkeeper to thank for the Nerazzurri’s point.

Guglielmo Stendardo – 5.5 – Declined

Was imperious in the air but his performance was marred by his rash challenge on Zapata that resulted in a penalty.

Nicolo Cherubin – 5.5 – Steady

Put in a solid performance but was too easily beaten to the ball by Higuain on the equalizer.

Cristian Raimondi – 6 – Progressive

Much better in attack in defence but that was all that was needed as it was his cross that allowed Denis to give the home side the temporary lead.

Daniele Baselli – 6 – Growth

Struggled to get into the match as the Partenopei overran the Atalanta midfielde. Grew with every passing minute

Luca Cigarini – 5 – Rash

Forced to break-up play rather than create, was visibly nervous playing against his former side. Sent off for a second yellow that almost cost his side a point.

Giulio Migliaccio – 6 – Industrious

Placed himself in front of the defence and was in his element but too wasteful in possession.

Cristian Del Grosso – 6 – Workmanlike

Was forced to focus on defending rather than attacking, but did well to control Callejon for much of the match.

German Denis – 7 – Spirited

Sacrificed himself for much of the match by pressing high and running himself into the ground. Was rewarded with a fine goal against his former club.

Maxi Moralez – 6 – Wasteful

Was key in helping the Dea defend against a spirited Napoli side, but gave away possession on too many occasions.

Napoli

Rafael – 6 – Exposed
Couldn’t do much about the goal as it was a well directed header. Rarely called into action.

Christian Maggio – 6 – Purposeful
A positive match for the fullback. Had a tricky opponent in Maxi Moralez and dealt with him well, whilst also getting forward to good effect.

Raul Albiol – 5 – Error
A decent performance from the Spaniard, but it is tainted with his complete misjudgement which led to Denis’ goal.

Kalidou Koulibaly – 6 – Strong
Did make a few minor errors, but a solid performance from the big defender.

Faouzi Ghoulam – 5.5 – More
Could have done a little better from the cross from Raimondi which led to the goal. But should have had an assist with his cross for Callejon’s miss.

Gokhan Inler – 6.5 – Presence
Demonstrated good presence in the midfield and organised his side well, whilst also breaking up Atalanta’s breaks.

David López – 6 – Solid
Did well for the hour he was on the pitch, but was a little wasteful in possession.

Jose Callejon – 4 – Howler
Would have had a higher rating had he not missed from two yards out. A player in his form should have buried it.

Marek Hamšík – 5.5 – Missing
A good first half was juxtaposed by a non-existent second. Did have a few goalscoring opportunities but was denied by Sportiello.

Dries Mertens – 6 – Good
Overall Mertens had a decent match. Got involved in the play a lot, but small errors hampered his game.

Higuain – 6.5 – Back
The Argentine is back amongst the goals and saved his side a point. Should have made it three, but a poor penalty was saved. Did get himself into good positions throughout the game.

Substitutes

Insigne – 6.5 – Lively
Came on midway through the second half and was lively.

Jorginho – 6 – Forward
Had a few decent forays into the opposition half, as well as a few ballooned efforts.

Duvan Zapata – N/A
