Roma defeated Chievo 3-0 on Saturday evening in an entertaining Serie A fixture at the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma started very strong scoring three goals in the first half. Mattia Destro struck early on at the third minute with a header off of a corner kick.

Shortly thereafter, Adem Ljajic sneaked past Francesco Bardi with an a successful strike from an awkward angle inside the penalty area. Chievo continued to flounder with a conceded penalty just after the half hour, which Francesco Totti successfully converted.

Roma retain second position in the Serie A standings behind Juventus, while Chievo will potentially sink further in the table with only four points and more fixtures to be played on Sunday.

Roma

Morgan De Sanctis – 6 – Bored

The Italian’s abilities were not challenged by Chievo. De Sanctis had only a few easy shots on goal to deal with.

Maicon – 6 – Quiet

Maicon made no noteworthy contributions to Roma’s victory but was successful in his fullback role for the duration of the game.

Davide Astori – 7 – Impenetrable

Astori played an integral role in Roma’s success, preventing Chievo from even attempting a shot on several occasions.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – 6.5 – Preventative

Along with Astori, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa further showcased Roma’s depth as a team, displaying a very strong defensive presence against Chievo’s forwards.

Ashley Cole – 6.5 – Workhorse

Cole showed excellent hustle moving the ball up the field and did not waver for the duration of the game. He seemed to be playing more like a wingback than a fullback.

Radja Nainggolan – 6.5 – Valuable

The Belgian continued his streak of stellar play in the midfield with several key passes and defensive plays. Nainggolan’s recent play will make for some difficult lineup decisions for Rudi Garcia once Kevin Strootman returns to play.

Daniele De Rossi – 7 – Masterful

De Rossi drew a penalty kick at the 32nd minute that resulted in a goal from Totti. De Rossi was a strong defensive and playmaking presence for the duration of the game.

Miralem Pjanic – 6.5 – Solid

Earned a booking at the 56th minute for a sloppy challenge but was otherwise a strong playmaking presence.

Mattia Destro – 7 – Assertive

Destro continues to show his ability as a consistent goal scorer with his third goal in six games. Scored on a powerful header at the third minute from a corner kick.

Francesco Totti – 7.5 – Trequartista

Scored on a penalty at the 33rd minute and also provided a great very long ball to Ljajic that resulted in a goal. He also made a couple on-target attempts.

Adem Ljajic – 7.5 – Creative

Ljajic scored a wonderful goal at the 25th minute from a seemingly futile angle inside the box. A massive threat and looked engaged throughout. When in this form he is one of Serie A’s best.

Substitutes

Alessandro Florenzi – 6 – Run-Out

Came on in place of Francesco Totti at the 60th minute. Florenzi did not make any noteworthy contributions during his short time on the pitch.

Leandro Paredes – 6 – Minutes

Came on at the 68th minute in place of Miralem Pjanic. Paredes did not play for long enough to leave his mark on the match. The few touches he had were neutral in nature with regard to the outcome of the match.

Salih Ucan – N/A

Ucan made his Serie A debut at the 88th minute when he came on in place of Radja Nainggolan.

Chievo

Francesco Bardi – 6.5 – Redeeming

At fault for Ljajic’s goal, but redeemed himself with a number of good stops in the second half which kept the score semi-respectable.

Gennaro Sardo – 5.5 – Ineffective

Sardo was unable to prevent Roma from driving the ball in to dangerous positions from the wing. Subbed off at the 70th minute.

Nicolas Frey – 6 – Mediocre

Though Frey was in the center-back position for all of Roma’s three goals, he deserves some credit for stopping several of Roma’s many attempts on goal.

Ervin Zukanovic – 6.5 – Firm

Zukanovic was perhaps Chievo’s strongest defensive presence for the fixture. He constrained Roma’s forwards on a few occasions but is still deserving of some blame for Chievo’s loss.

Cristiano Biraghi – 5 – Absent

Biraghi did not contribute anything noteworthy to Chievo’s efforts other than a fruitless assist to Maxi Lopez at the 41st minute.

Dario Dainelli – 4.5 – Detracting

Dainelli conceded a penalty at the 32nd minute with a blatant tug down at Daniele De Rossi’s shoulder inside the penalty area. Francesco Totti promptly capitalized on the penalty and worsened Chievo’s situation.

Isaac Cofie – 5 – Lackluster

Cofie’s only contributions were three fouls and an attempted though ball that resulted in an offside call.

Ivan Radovanovic – 6.5 – Robust

Radovanovic was responsible for the majority of Chievo’s attempts on goal. The Serb had two shots on goal himself, and made two chances that resulted in opportunities on goal.

Perparim Hetemaj – 6 – Average

Hetemaj had one wide shot on goal and earned Chievo a handful of free kicks.

Alberto Paloschi – 6 – Decent

Though Paloschi was not able to strike successfully for Chievo, he had three shots on goal. Two of his shots were on target and required the attention of De Sanctis.

Maxi Lopez – 5 – Poor

Lopez partially participated in Chievo’s offensive efforts with a couple shots on goal but was booked at the 58th minute for a bad foul against Davide Astori before being subbed off at the 65th minute.

Substitutes

Riccardo Meggiorini – 6 – Same

Came on at the 64th minute in place of Maxi Lopez. Meggiorini did not improve Chievo’s offensive presence while on the pitch.

Bostjan Cesar – 6 – Nothing

Came on at the 70th minute in place of Gennaro Sardo. Like the other Flying Donkeys brought onto the pitch in the second half, Cesar did not provide any additional spark.

Edimar – N/A

Came on at the 80th minute in place of Cristiano Biraghi to make his Serie A debut.
