Sampdoria and Roma shared the points in the most anticipated Serie A fixture this weekend after a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday.

The Blucerchiati had goalkeeper Sergio Romero to thank after an wonder save kept Sampdoria in it, while they also had a chance through Stefano Okaka, but the former Roma striker scuffed his shot and it finished goalless.

These are the ratings of the players involved in that rather forgettable match. Agree? Disagree? Comments are welcome.

Sampdoria

Sergio Romero – 7 – Solid

Denied Gervinho in the opening minute of the second half and rejected Florenzi’s potential winner later in a magnificent manner

Lorenzo De Silvestri – 6 – Warrior

Compensated for Gervinho’s energy with experience. Stopped a quick breakaway by the Ivorian in the first half and held the defensive line well.

Matias Silvestre – 5.5 – Effective

Blocked Gervinho’s initial shot before Roma’s winger hit the post of the open goal

Alessio Romagnoli – 5 – Average

Performed his defensive duties well.

Vasco Regini – 4.5 – Disappointing

Could not stop Torosidis and Florenzi from entering his zone throughout the match. Logically replaced by Mesbah after 68 minutes

Roberto Soriano – 5 – Wasteful

Terribly miss-hit an opportunity from 20 yards out in the first half; became more active in the second half and made a good run in the Giallorossi’s penalty area, but could not threaten De Sanctis’ goal.

Angelo Palombo – 5 – Stopper

Main responsibility was to prevent Roma’s midfield and front three to break away, by whatever means necessary. Surprisingly, lasted 90 minutes before he got his routine yellow card.

Pedro Obiang – 5 – Tried

Main contribution was to feed Soriano a ball that set the beginning of a dangerous run into the penalty area, but ended with a Roma clearance.

Manolo Gabbiadini – 4.5 – There

Failed to grab the winner for Sampdoria after he failed to make a contact on a set piece that found him unmarked two yards away from De Sanctis’ goal.

Stefano Okaka – 4.5 – Miss

Too few touches for a center forward. Sent only one shot on goal and should have done much better.

Eder – 4 – Offside

Had more touches while in offside position than while on side. Should have been taken out by Mihajlovic much earlier than the 83rd minute.

Substitutes

Djamel Mesbah – 4.5 – Invisible

Had the most time of all substitutes to make something out of his appearance on the field, but did nothing significant to increase his team’s chances for a win.

Luca Rizzo – N/A

Gonzalo Bergessio – N/A

Roma

Morgan De Sanctis – 5.5 – Unfazed

Dealt comfortably with Sampdoria’s only shot on goal and did not have to dive all match long.

Vasilis Torosidis – 6 – Dangerous

Helped Yanga-Mbiwa and Astori with whatever little was needed to disourage Eder and Okaka and spent a good amount of time in the offensive half, sending crosses toward Florenzi and Gervinho.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – 6 – Hard

Solid in defence throughout all 90 minutes. Tried to get the ball forward as much as possible, and at times seemed like a midfielder but for the misplaced passes

Davide Astori – 7 – Best

Played a brilliant pass to give Gervinho the best chance in the match. Very active in both penalty areas, even earned himself a booking for intruding in Romero’s space. Only negative was giving up a corner due to miscommunication with De Sanctis.

Jose Holebas – 6 – Forward

Advanced well in Sampdoria’s half throughout the match, giving De Silvestri plenty of trouble. Created one of Roma’s best opportunities in the first half, but his shot was saved by Romero.

Alessandro Florenzi – 6 – Unlucky

Made the right flank his own with the help of Torosidis behind him. Nearly became the hero for the Giallorossi late in the match, but his header was magnificently saved by the Argentine international between Sampdoria’s sticks.

Daniele De Rossi – 5 – Frustrated

Failed to make significant impact, received a booking for a foul in a dangerous area.

Radja Nainggolan – 5.5 – Fighter

Went in for every inch of space given up by Sampdoria’s midfield, which earned him a better rating than Il Capitano Futuro. But has similar issues as his midfield partner.

Adem Ljajic – 4.5 – Squander

Frequent target of Totti’s and De Rossi’s balls, but made little of the possession he had. Should have been replaced much earlier than the 72nd minute

Francesco Totti – 5 – Tired

Showed little of the energy fans got used to see from him this season. Let the ball compensate for that and played long passes across the field, most of which led to nothing.

Gervinho – 6 – Disappeared

One of the best players on the field in the first half, yet unlucky in front goal. After being denied by Romero in the beginning of the second half, however, he seemed to disappear from the spectrum

Substitutes:

Miralem Pjanic – 5.5 – Little

Brought the energy and efficiency that Ljajic lacked when he replaced him with 20 minutes to play

Juan Iturbe – N/A

Mattia Destro – N/A
