Torino earned their second win of the Serie A season Sunday when they defeated Udinese 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin.
After an even first half, the Granata showed more determination in the second period and their efforts paid off when Fabio Quagliarella netted the winning goal after 62 minutes.
The following are Forza Italian Football’s individual performance ratings for the match. Agree? Disagree? Let us know in comments box below.
Torino
Jean-Francois Gillet – 5.5 – Comfortable
Responded well when called upon; however, he was fortunate that Udinese’s best opportunities were the ones that did not go on target.
Emiliano Moretti – 6 – Impenetrable
Exerted complete dominance on the left side of the defence, leaving no chance for the Zebrette to create something in that part of the pitch.
Cesare Bovo – 5.5 – Solid
Did well to orchestrate Granata’s back three. A major factor in Di Natale’s weak performance. Occasional mistakes were covered well by Gillet or wasted by Udinese’s forwards.
Pontus Jansson – 6 – Met expectations
Impressive debut for the 23-year old Swede whose energy compensated well for the opponent’s experience
Cristian Molinaro – 5 – Ruthless
Two silly challenges early on could send the game down an entirely different path, he should be lucky he wasn’t booked for the second one as well. Involvement in the attacking half was more positive.
Alessandro Gazzi – 5 – Present
Average performance altogether, but left a slight feeling of under-performance
Giuseppe Vives – 7 – Ageless
Part of the triad that made all the difference for Torino. Unlucky to get a goal himself, but set Quagliarella up perfectly for the winning goal. Deservedly applauded as he was subbed off after 80 minutes
Marco Benassi – 5 – Average
A yellow card was his major contribution to the game, logically substituted after one hour.
Bruno Peres – 5 – Inconsistent
Shared the bragging rights on the left side of midfield with opposite namesake Bruno Fernandes.
Fabio Quagliarella – 7.5 – Excellent
Constant threat to Zebrette defence throughout the match. Goal was deserved in the light of performance, but several good opportunities were wasted before he found the net.
Amauri – 8 – Man of the Match
Working tirelessly and bringing chaos to the Udinese defence with every touch, he reminded of his Parma and Palermo years
Substitutes
Juan Mino – 5.5 – Spot-on
The best Torino substitute. Introduced in the game just as the Granata started asserting dominance and his involvement made instant impact
Antonio Nocerino – 5 – Fresh legs
Did not add nor take away from the flow of the game after being introduced for Gazzi
Ruben Perez – 4.5 – Disappointing
In 10 minutes worth of play, he managed to get a yellow card for a foul in an area from where on a better day Di Natale and company could make him cost his team the win
Udinese
Orestis Karnezis – 6 – Efficient
Udinese’s best performer – saved what he should’ve saved and could not be blamed for the goal.
Giovanni Pasquale – 5 – Black sheep
The attack for the goal came from his side, but he did not have too bad of an overall performance.
Danilo – 4.5 – True culprit
Poor marking on his part let to the goal of Quigliarella, who outjumped him with ease in the six-yard box
Thomas Heurtaux – 4.5 – Helpless
No better than his partner in the center, earned himself a yellow in the first half in desperation to stop one of the many Granata attacks trhough his zone.
Silvan Widmer – 5 – Brave
Managed to switch from defensive to offensive gear from time to time. Had a good opportunity for equaliser toward the end and should’ve done better
Bruno Fernandez – 4.5 – Missing
His most significant involvement came within the last 15 minutes of the match, a little too late.
Allan – 5.5 – Active
One of the Zebrette players who did not lose motivation until the final whistle. Unfortunately for his team, the defensive line in front of him was at its best.
Gianpiero Pinzi – 5 – Mediocre
Was not missed after being replaced after 70 minutes
Cyril Thereau -4.5 – Wasteful
Squandered absolutely everything that came his way, including a close-range chance that he recklessly hammered over the bar
Lucas Evangelista – 4.5 – Overshadowed
Completely neutralised by the Granata’s young buck – Johansson, against whom he lasted only 53 minutes before being subbed off
Antonio Di Natale – 4.5 – Wanted
Nowhere to be found for most of the match. Reminded of himself with occasional shots that caused laughter among the home fans
Substitutes
Emmanuel Badu – 5.5 – Impactful
Did much better than his predecessor Evangelista to break through the zone of the tiring Johansson, but his crosses in the area led to nothing
Luis Muriel – 5.5 – Mistimed
By far the best Udinese substitute as he made more impact than several starters. His energy allowed for what could be called a final push by the Zebrette toward the end, but should have been introduced to the game earlier
Guilherme – 5 – Noncontributing
Did no better nor wors than Pinzi, who he replaced with 20 minutes left on the clock
