Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has criticised government legislation requiring that clubs pay for police security in their stadiums.

The Italian government has recently passed new laws on stadium security forcing clubs to now devolve between one and three per cent of the ticket sales per game to pay for extra policing on match days.

“Why should I have to pay for the behaviour of others?” the 66-year-old told Radio Uno.

“It’s a public service, and if someone misbehaves the club can’t pay for it.

“I don’t think that public order should be administered by the club.

“Inside the stadium, we’ve actually made significant progress.

“We play our part to identify those who come to the stadiums for reasons other than football.

“I don’t think it’s difficult, I think these people are already known to law enforcement.

“In Italy we have these situations, and we have to resolve them with the help of the law.”
