Fiorentina will being looking to inflict back to back Serie A defeats on Sampdoria as the two teams meet on Sunday at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Sampdoria saw their unbeaten start to the Serie A end in midweek at the San Siro against Inter.

A late controversial Mauro Icardi penalty was the difference between the two teams.

Although Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic believed his side did not deserve anything from the game.

Fiorentina meanwhile found their form in midweek as they cruised to a 3-0 home victory over high flying Udinese.

That victory was only Fiorentina’s second in front of their own fans this season in Serie A.

Despite putting three past Udinese, Fiorentina still have the forth worst scoring record in Serie A, with just seven goals in nine games.

The Sampdoria game ends a big week for Fiorentina. After drawing with AC Milan on Sunday at the San Siro and beating Udinese, Fiorentina will once again come up against one of their potential challengers for European football.

In this fixture last season, both defences prevailed in a 0-0 draw in late March which saw both teams have exactly 50 % of possession.

Going back to the Luigi Ferraris is always a sentimental occasion for Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella.

The former Italian international striker played for both Genoa and Sampdoria during his playing career.

His first spell with Sampdoria was his most successful time in Genoa, as he scored 53 goals in 84 games for il Doria.

One big talking point ahead of the game is the pitch at the Luigi Ferraris.

After recent floods in the area, the surface has come under criticism particular from Massimiliano Allegri.

The Juventus coach said that the pitch was unplayable and unacceptable for a Serie A game after his side lost to Genoa 1-0 in midweek.

The main injury news ahead of the game is the potential come back of Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez.

It has been over a month since the German international last played for La Viola and it is likely that he will come off the bench rather than start at the weekend.
