Cagliari striker Marco Sau felt that it was he and his teammates pride that saw them recover from a two-goal deficit at home to Sampdoria on Sunday afternoon, as they snatched an unlikely point.

With 30 minutes remaining the Rossoblu were still trailing when the game turned on a penalty converted by Avelar Danilo as Fabrizio Cacciatore was sent off for the Blucerchiati before the 26-year-old netted the equaliser in the 77th.

“It was not easy to recover a match that had started badly with some negative incidents,” Sau told Sky Sport Italia.

“We’ve been lucky and good to react. It certainly was not easy.

“Pride is what has given us the strength to recover a game that was pretty much lost.

“At home we are a struggling a bit, but we are a great team and the wins will come soon at the Sant’Elia.

“The understanding with [striker partner Victor] Ibarbo is certainly refined, it is now necessary to better assimilate the patterns of the coach.”
