Schalke join race for Sampdoria midfielder Soriano

Schalke have joined Valencia in the race to sign Sampdoria midfield star Roberto Soriano.

The 23 year old matured considerably last season under coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, and has impressed once again during the start of this season, leading to suggestions he may be called up to Antonio Conte’s Italy squad.

According to Sportmediaset.com, Schalke have taken a keen interest in the Italian midfielder and may make a concrete move for him when the transfer window re-opens in January.

A move to Schalke would mean a return to Germany for Soriano, with the midfielder having been born in Darmstadt and actually played in the youth team of Bayern Munich before moving to Sampdoria in 2009.

Soriano has scored six goals in 76 appearances for the Blucerchiati.
