Following the international break, Serie A returned with an action packed round 7. The weekend’s action saw Juventus drop their first points of the season and had routine wins for Roma and AC Milan.

Lazio carried on their good form and made it three wins in a row by defeating Fiorentina 2-0. Inter and Napoli played a dramatic 2-2 draw, while Cagliari versus Sampdoria ended with the same score line.

For the Team of The Week we have chosen a 4-2-3-1 formation with Paulo Dybala spearheading the attack backed by a triumvirate of attacking midfielders. Callejon’s brace against Inter earns him a place as the right attacking midfielder, while Honda and Ljajic take up the remaining two places.

If you disagree with our selection, feel free to leave a comment and suggest your changes.

Andrea Consigli – Sassuolo

One of the main reasons for Juventus not taking maximum points from the fixture. Stood no chance against Pogba’s goal, but aside from that, dealt confidently with everything that was thrown at him, including a great double save from Pogba and Carlos Tevez, the latter trying to score from the rebound.

Ignazio Abate – AC Milan

The Italian international was rampant down the right side, bombing forward whenever he got the opportunity, yet managed to keep things tight defensively. Got an assist for the opener as Rafael Marques turned his cross in to his own goal.

Team of the Week 7Stefan de Vrij – Lazio

De Vrij was a complete rock at the back for Lazio, keeping Fiorentina’s attackers at bay and commanding the back line. The Dutch international gave his best display in a Biancocelesti shirt and has started to look like a shrewd piece of business for the club.

Giancarlo Gonzalez – Palermo

The Costa Rican kept things solid at the back for Palermo and didn’t allow Cesena’s strikers any time on the ball at all. Scored a late winner by nodding in Dybala’s corner to give him a dream Serie A debut.

Danilo Avelar – Cagliari

Avelar dominated his flank, making repeated attacking runs down the left wing and defending capably when required. Capped of the all-action performance by scoring a penalty and laying the assist for Sau to score the important equaliser.

Paul Pogba – Juventus

After a few placid displays, Saturday’s game showcased the real Pogba. The Frenchman bossed the midfield from the start to finish and was virtually unstoppable. Combined with Tevez to devastating effect and scored a stunner for the equaliser.

Hernanes – Inter

Involved in every attack, the Brazilian was Inter’s driving force. Almost earned Nerazzurri the lead before half-time as his low drive from the edge of the area crashed off the post. Got his due reward when he rose highest to head home a late equaliser.

Jose Callejon – Napoli

The Spaniard is enjoying a rich vein of form and has now scored in four consecutive games. He was the brightest spark for Napoli and carried them offensively, displaying his clinical and ruthless nature and punished Inter’s defence with two well taken finishes.

Keisuke Honda – AC Milan

The Japanese attacking midfielder has had an incredible start to the season, and carried on in the same manner against Hellas Verona. Scored a brace with a couple of well-taken finishes. The joint leading goalscorer in Serie A on six goals, looks at home in Inzaghi’s AC Milan.

Adem Ljajic – Roma

The Serbian had a lot to prove given his recent unimpressive performances, but answered his critics perfectly and was the heartbeat of Roma’s play. Looked a threat whenever he was on the ball and scored a wonderful goal from a tight angle. A performance reminiscent of his mercurial Fiorentina days.

Paulo Dybala – Palermo

Dybala was a constant menace against Cesena. The Argentine was unlucky to see a free kick come off the crossbar in the first 10 minutes. Unfazed the striker opened the scoring with a fantastic solo goal to and went on to deliver the assist for the stoppage time winner. The youngster has been likened to Sergio Aguero and with such a performance you can understand why.
