Serie A has sold the league’s international broadcast rights for the next three seasons to Media Partners & Silva following an assembly of directors.

The broadcaster has held the rights since the 2010 season and beat competition from Img and B4 for the rights to show Serie A games around the world.

According to the Gazzzetta dello Sport, the deal carries on until the end of the 2017-18 season and is worth on average €186 million per year.

The decision was to sell the rights to Media Partners & Silva was accepted unanimously by the league’s board and it appears to mark a large increase in the value of the league’s brand abroad as the current deal is only worth €117m per season.

The Italian league continues to make the large part of its income from domestic broadcast rights which are valued at around €857m per season.

Serie A continues to lag way behind the Premier League in exporting its brand of football around round the world with the English like worth an estimated €800m.

Calcio has however narrowly overtaken Spain in the export league with La Liga reportedly worth €177m to the international television market.
