Top of the table Perugia suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday when they were defeated 2-0 by Spezia at the Stadio Alberto Picco.

The Grifoni were also reduced to nine men, but remain at the summit of the Serie B standings.

The home side took the lead in the opening 20 minutes when Croatian striker Mario Situm found the net.

Then in the second half, Perugia dug themselves a bigger hole when Gianluca Nicco received a second yellow card and then minutes later talisman Rodrigo Taddei was dismissed with a straight red card.

In the last five minutes, the extra two player advantage proved vital as Juri Cisotti doubled the Aquilotti’s lead and secured victory, sending them just short of the play-off positions.

Frosinone moved up to second place after they defeated ten man Catania 1-0 with the goal coming in the last ten minutes from Luca Paganini.

Edgar Cani was dismissed for the Elefanti as they remained in the relegation places in what has been a disappointing start for them.

Riccardo Maniero was on fire for Pescara as he grabbed a hat-trick to help the Delfini earn their first win of the season as they smashed Virtus Entella 4-0 on the Adriatic coast.

The striker scored a penalty in the first half then struck twice in the second period to put his side 3-0 up and then Cristiano Pasquato added the fourth.

Entella also had a man sent off as Leandro Rinaudo saw red.

There was a thriller at the Stadio Tombolato as Cittadella were defeated 3-2 by Virtus Lanciano.

The home side took the lead in the eighth minute as Claudio Coralli found the net but two quick-fire goals from Gaetano Vastola turned the game on its head.

Citta equalised in the 67th minute through Nicola Rigoni but Vastola completed his hat-trick six minutes from time to grab the win for Lanciano.

Elsewhere, Brescia were denied a win against Varese as a 94th minute equaliser from Gianpietro Zecchin snatched a draw for the away side.

Brescia took the lead in the second half through an Andrea Caracciolo penalty but that late equaliser means they are still one off the bottom of the table.

Carpi earned a 1-0 win against Pro Vercelli thanks to a goal from Antonino Di Gaudio which puts them up to third and Trapani defeated Latina 1-0 as Matteo Mancosu scored with a spot kick.

Bari and Modena played out a 1-1 draw as goals minutes apart from Francesco Caputo and Amidu Salifu made it honours even. The away side had ten men also when Stefano Beltrame was dismissed in the second half.

Finally, Bologna missed their chance to move up to second place as they drew 0-0 with Vicenza.
