Quagliarella - TorinoTorino striker Fabio Quagliarella has admitted that he had hoped to return to former club Napoli during the summer.

The veteran striker eventually moved from rivals Juventus to Torino, and has scored in each of his last five games including at the Stadio San Paolo.

He spoke to Radio Tiki Taka and explained his decision to choose the Granata.

“I hoped for [a return to Napoli],” he admitted.

“They told me there was the possibility and I told my agent to give priority to Torino and Napoli. I’ve always said I didn’t want to leave, and I repeat that.”

“In my heart I will always remain with the Azzurri even if they whistle and jeer me. Sometimes lovers part without a reason.”

The former Juventus man also revealed the reason he chooses to wear the number 27.

“It is for Nicola Galli,” he explained.

“We were together in the Under 18s the week before we went to Bari and then there was the tragic accident. I take the number with every team; I am very close to his family.”
