AC Milan striker Fernando Torres has revealed that the Rossoneri tried to sign him during his Atletico Madrid days but that the Spanish club had no intention of letting him leave at that time.

The 30-year-old Spain international joined the Rossoneri on a two year loan deal from Chelsea during the summer but he has admitted that it was not the first time that Milan had wanted his signature.

“The first time we spoke was during the 2001-02 season,” he stated while speaking with Corriere della Sera.

“It was a time when many players were moving between AC Milan and Atletico such as [Demetrio] Albertini, [Fabricio] Coloccini and [Cosmin] Contra.

“It was a different era and Atletico had no intention of letting me go.”

He then moved on to discuss the work of coach Filippo Inzaghi so far.

“He doesn’t only care about the attackers, he is guiding the entire team.

“Of course he can give me valuable advice on movement in the area.

“I do not compare myself to Inzaghi or anyone else, every player has his own story.

“I am here to win and I hope to be here for many years.”
