Roma captain Francesco Totti hailed his side’s 2-0 win over Cesena as one of massive importance given the repercussions that dropped points could have had.

The Giallorossi hero was speaking to the media after the game despite the fact that he was rested by coach Rudi Garcia as goals in each half from Mattia Destro and Daniele De Rossi saw Roma cut the gap at the top, and move level.

“I agree completely with what the coach said in his thoughts afterwards,” he said on his official website. “Any result apart from a victory could have been a serious mis-step for us and in these games, it is essential to take maximum points.

“It is especially important at this stage of the season where there are many games and they are so close together so we must continue like this without slowing down.”

Totti, 38, has three goals and three assists in nine appearances this season in all competitions.
