Former Italy striker Gianluca Vialli has stated that Roma were well deserving of their point after drawing Manchester City 1-1 in their Champions League encounter.

Currently working as a pundit on Italian television, Vialli believes that Roma defended well throughout the game and they were the more effective of the two teams.

“Roma started very well and for 70 minutes they defended better,” Vialli said on Sky Sport Italia.

“They were more efficient [and] they made City look like a normal side.

“They deserved to level the scores. Then Pellegrini made two changes and there the game changed a little bit.

“From that moment they had supremacy but Roma defended themselves well.”

38-year-old Francesco Totti became the oldest goalscorer the Champions League history after he chipped the ball over Joe Hart to level the scores.

“He makes things easy but also beautiful,” Vialli said. “The touch made at the moment he scored was fantastic.”
