After being left out in the cold at Newcastle United, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa surprised many when he joined Roma on loan in the summer but the defender hasn’t looked back since moving to the capital.

The French international has been thriving this season as The Giallorossi started strongly but their unbeaten run was halted in their last Serie A game with the defeat in Turin.

”The team played an excellent game it was unfortunate that it did not go as we hoped for,” he told Sky Sport Italia, ‘

‘There is a still long way to go in the season and we can’t give up on the Scudetto, we have to fightback and try and be successful at the end of the season.”

The move to Roma also meant that Yanga-Mbiwa linked up with his fellow countryman Rudi Garcia.

”I know him from his time coaching at Lille and he likes to play football in a good way with the team playing out from defence which suits me, and that is why it is a pleasure to play for him as he makes the team feel at ease and I feel I can really grow a lot as a player under him.”

After Saturday’s 3-0 home win against Chievo the team are back in action in the Champions League on Tuesday as they take on Bayern Munich and it’s game the defender says the team will be going out to try and cause an upset in.

”We are facing the favourites to win the group and we will do our best to get a result as we have done in the group so far.”
