Inter legend Javier Zanetti has reflected on former Nerazzurri president Massimo Moratti’s decision to step down from his position of honorary president, although the 69-year-old still owns a percentage of the Milan club.

Moratti, who was president from 1995 until 2013, will now have no influence on the direction of the club but former captain Zanetti, does not think Moratti’s absence will hinder the progress under new president Erick Thohir.

“The most important thing is that we all need to think about the good of this beautiful jersey, which has so much glory and history behind it, it needs to be respected,” Zanetti, who is now vice-president, told Sport Mediaset.

“We must remain united and ensure that Inter becomes the club that the fans want.

“Moratti is like a father to me and is someone that I admire and respect a lot, he will always be part of Inter.”
