AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi met the team before their Saturday morning training session to warn them that defeat is not an option in Sunday night’s derby against Inter.

Having recovered in San Raffaele from uveitis, the former Italian Prime Minister turned up at the club’s training centre to meet the squad before the clash which he may turn up at the stadium to watch.

He was greeted by Adriano Galliani and Filippo Inzaghi upon arrival and his overall message to the team to the team was that they “must win” the game against the Nerazzurri, under the new stewardship of Roberto Mancini.

The president asked for “an important performance” from the players before pausing at Fernando Torres in particular and asking him to score a goal in the fixture.

Michael Essien was told by Berlusconi to keep a tight rein on Mateo Kovacic in midfield while the 78-year-old offered only a wink in the direction of Stephan El Shaarawy.

He then spent a little time watching the training session with Alberto Zangrillo, head of the Scientific Committee at Milan Lab, before retiring inside the complex.
