Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri believes the Bianconeri needed to win in order to maintain their three point advantage over Roma after defeating Lazio 3-0 on Saturday night.

A brace from Paul Pogba and a goal from Carlos Tevez helped the Bianconeri stroll to an easy victory, a result Allegri believes was key after Roma’s 2-1 victory over Atalanta earlier in the day.

“It was important to win especially in order to respond to Roma. To win tonight we needed that type of performance,” he told Mediaset Premium after the match.

“The players did very well, we could have scored the second goal in the first half but we did well in the defensive phase as well.

“[Alvaro] Morata or [Fernando] Llorente? It depends on the match. Llorente did well in defending the ball tonight. It’s normal that by playing with three strikers there are no points of reference but we need time for that.

“I think [Paul] Pogba had his best match tonight, not just for the goals, but for the plays he made and the sacrifices he made.

“I think he has the potential to be the best player in his position if he wants to. These matches must be the norm for him.”

Allegri also touched on Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Malmo, a match the Bianconeri want to get all three points from.

“Wednesday’s match against Malmo is important in terms of preparation for the next match against Atletico in order to finish first.”
