Fiorentina defender Marcos Alonso has revealed that the Gigliati have been working hard throughout the international break in order to be prepared for their away clash with Hellas Verona on Sunday.

The Viola have managed to win just one of their last five Serie A matches, with a number of injuries in coach Vincenzo Montella’s attacking department playing a big part in the team’s current struggles, and the 23-year-old admits that he’s willing to play in whatever role is necessary in order to help his club succeed.

Alonso spoke to Fiorentina fans during a recent club event about the upcoming match against Hellas Verona and his willingness to play in multiple positions on the pitch, while also commenting on the recovering Mario Gomez and the freshly injured Manuel Pasqual.

“The break has served us well,” said the Spaniard. “We worked very hard and now we just want to have a great game against Hellas Verona.

“Playing on the left-wing in a 3-5-2 formation? I have played as both a centre-back and full-back, and I can also play on the outside.

“It’s a new role for me but after the game against Sampdoria I’m available to play wherever the coach wants me to play.

“Gomez? He is training very well. He has had some bad luck with injuries. He is a top player and we have no doubts that he will be back scoring goals very soon.

“Pasqual? The whole team is with him at this time, hopefully he will come back soon and will return stronger than ever.”
