Khouma Babacar has admitted that Fiorentina suffered against Guingamp in Thursday evening’s Europa League game, but the Senegalese forward believes that it was a well deserved victory for his side.

The Viola looked to be cursing after early goals from Marko Marin and Babacar saw them 2-0 up after only a quarter of an hour. However, the game turned and the Italian side really struggled in the second half after Jose Basanta was sent off for a foul in the box and Guingamp scored from the resulting penalty.

“It was a difficult game after the sending off,” Babacar told Radio Blue. “We really suffered but we deserved to win all three points.

“We must continue to do well and work hard for the next games. After the red card we suffered but it was important to win.

“My goal? I know that the player I have to thank is [Juan] Vargas: I always believe in his crossing ability.

“The important thing is to always have a goal advantage. We knew how to suffer. The knockout stages in Europe? It is important and we hope to do well in the [Europa] League: I am convinced that we can improve.”

Fiorentina had already qualified for the next round of the Europa League before this match, but the victory secures them top spot in Group K.
