Franz Beckenbauer Bayern MunichBayern Munich’s honorary president Franz Beckenbauer has revealed that Xherdan Shaqiri will most likely be able to leave the club during the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old has been steadily linked with a move away from the Bavarians since the summer due to a lack of playing time, with a number of clubs including Liverpool, Roma, Napoli and Juventus ready to fight for his signature, and it seems he may now have the chance to make his exit this winter after his previous attempts to leave were blocked by the German giants.

Beckenbauer spoke to Sky Deutschland about Shaqiri’s future with Bayern Munich and praised the winger’s talent, but admitted that he only wants players to remain at the club on their own free will.

“Bayern have already sent out a signal and indicated to him that he can probably leave the club in January, when he wants,” said the 69-year-old.

“I think it’s a shame because he is a great talent. However, I personally only want players who wish to stay here to be with us, otherwise it is only right that they go to another team.”
