Bayern Munich defender Mehdi Benatia does not believe that his former side Roma are in crisis despite a recent run of poor results.

The Germans beat Roma 2-0 on Wednesday to leave their hopes of qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League in the balance, but the Moroccan international thinks they are still strong.

“I do not think that Roma are in crisis,” Benatia told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

“It is true that they have had easier times in recent years but they have great character in the side.

“They are still in a great position in Serie A and the Champions League.

“Roma are strong and always will be strong.”

Benatia went on to speak about Bayern’s style of play and praised coach Pep Guardiola.

“It sounds simple but our game in made up of many different steps,” the defender said.

“We often give the impression of having an extra man but we have 11 players like everyone else.

“Our coach Guardiola has a huge impact on how we play.

“He wants us to control the game with personality. This style brings risks but it is how we play and it suits us.”
