Rafa-Benitez-turista-a-NapoliNapoli coach Rafael Benitez, believes his squad can gain three points from their clash with Cagliari on the weekend despite the interruption of the international break.

The 54-year-old says the Azzurri’s confidence is high and that the return of star players from international duty, will only strengthen the side.

“After the break it is increasingly difficult but we arrive with three positive results and without a goal conceded [so] the confidence is high,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“All are mentally prepared, even those who returned yesterday.”

The Spaniard is adamant that the clash will be of highly attacking nature due to the forward pressing nature of both sides.

“We will see two teams that attack, what we all want, beautiful football,” he continued.

“There will be more fans in all of the Italian stadiums if football is always played in this manner.”

Benitez believes it is highly unlikely for injured Dries Mertens to make his Serie A return this weekend but insists the Belgian and the other sidelined Azzurri, are making progress.

“We talked to him [Mertens] and the doctor, he needs to stay calm,” he stated.

“Tomorrow he will return and we will see how he goes but the priority is his situation and I think it is almost impossible for this weekend.”

“All are working hard, even Michu and Zuniga but we will decide.”

“Even Insigne is doing a great job with double sessions,” he said.

The Spaniard still has options for his side including Jonathan De Guzman, Marek Hamsik and Faouzi Ghoulam but is keen to see how they train with the side following the break.

“They come back from their national sides, we will see how they train and then decide,” he went on.

“Both Hamsik and Ghoulam can play and we can start with two strikers.”
