Genoa midfielder Andrea Bertolacci jokingly claimed that the goal against Palermo on Monday night should be awarded to him.

Bertolacci is in the form of his life and has been duly rewarded as Antonio Conte recently selected him for the Italy squad for the Euro 2016 qualifer against Croatia.

“The goal is mine and I will take it at all costs,” Bertolacci joked with Sky Sports about his shot that deflected off his teammate Luca Antonelli.

“Though, if I’m not attributed with the goal, then I am equally pleased with the assist as well.”

The newly capped Azzurri midfielder reflected on the match and also congratulated his opponents.

“We’re disappointed about the result, but I’m satisfied with the way we played,” he continued. “We have to prove that we can earn third place match after match, Palermo made things difficult for us. They are a good team.”

Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin was charged for drinking and driving earlier in the week, Bertolacci was asked to comment on his situation: “ I don’t want to comment, Mattia does his talking on the pitch.”
