After becoming a fundamental part of the Chievo defence this season, Cristiano Biraghi is already dreaming of a call-up to the Italian national side and, more worryingly for Flying Donkeys fans, a return to parent club Inter.

At 22-years-old the full-back acknowledged this would be a crucial year in his development and had surprising praise for former Nerazzurri coach Rafael Benitiez despite spending just six months under the current Napoli boss back in 2010.

“This is a critical season for my growth,” Biraghi told FCInterNews.

“My dream is to one day be playing with the national team, and go back to playing with the team of my heart Inter.

“I have to thank Benitez [for my Inter debut in the Champions League]. It was him giving me this opportunity.

“With him I spent six months crucial to my career. Always during our [pre-season] retreat he was around giving me the right advice.

“Benitez has made me realize that before the fun and entertainment you need to work hard and well.”
