AC Milan midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura has revealed that the Diavolo plan on winning the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday and will then be looking to begin their assault on the top Serie A positions.

The Rossoneri are currently in seventh place with 17 points, which sits them eight points behind second place Roma and 11 points behind league leading Juventus, but the 25-year-old is confident that the determination of coach Filippo Inzaghi can help lead the team to a top three spot by the end of the season.

Bonaventura spoke to the Corriere della Sera about the emotions surrounding the upcoming derby clash with Inter and AC Milan’s focus on winning, while also commenting on the San Siro outfit’s goals for the rest of the campaign.

“For an Italian player like me, Milan is the greatest,” said the Italian international, who has scored two goals in his 10 Serie A appearances this season thus far.

“There are so many emotions ahead of the derby, I’m a little excited but when I step onto the field everything disappears from my mind.

“Inzaghi has a striking passion, he pays a lot of attention to every detail. One perceives his attachment to this club and is willing to jump into the fire for him.

“We are striving to do our best. We hope to defeat Inter in the derby, and in the near future we will even bother Juventus and Roma.”
