Former Lazio midfielder Cristian Brocchi says he felt right at home during his time at the capital club and still enjoys a great relationship with the Biancocelesti faithful.

Now AC Milan Primavera coach, Brocchi spent five years at Lazio between 2008 and 2013 and won the Coppa Italia twice during that period in 2008 and 2013 but missed the latter game though injury which eventually forced him to retire from the game.

“I can only thank the fans of Lazio. I say it whenever I can. I felt tied to this club almost as if it was my home,” Brocchi told “I Laziali Sono Qua” radio program.

“I have always considered the Lazio shirt very important to me and have always fought for their honour.”

Brocchi was asked what coach and player he rated the most during his spell at Le Aquile.

“Without taking anything away from anyone, the coach I had the best relationship with was Edy Reja. We had some great results during his time in charge.

“As for the best player, this might surprise some people, I will say it was Matuzalem.”

With a huge game on Saturday evening for Lazio as they face Juventus, Brocchi was asked for his thoughts on the big game.

“It’s one of those games that stands on its own. We must get back to where we were before the Empoli game. I have great respect for the coach [Stefano Poli]. He has stamped his own mark on the team and instilled a winning philosophy.”
