Former Roma and current Russia coach, Fabio Capello, believes it was Giallorossi defence that weakened the side in their 1-1 Champions League draw with CSKA Moscow.

It was a solitary goal by captain Francesco Totti which should have been the winner, however the injury time strike by the Russian opposition not only levelled the match but left Group E wide open.

Capello attributes the shock draw to a lack of team movement and goal scoring opportunities coming mainly from counter attacks.

“It was the defence that didn’t reduce the space in front,” the 68-year-old told Sky Sport Italia.

“The attackers were trying to retrieve the ball, but the team didn’t move together as they did in the first half.

“CSKA always played centrally, without stretching the game and so it was never easy to recover the ball.

“Roma didn’t try to impose themselves in an attacking sense, but only tried to counter.”

The Giallorossi can make sure of qualification, if they defeat Manchester City on December 10 at the Stadio Olimpico.
