Chievo welcome Lazio to the Stadio Bentegodi on Sunday in Serie A, with both sides chasing the much-needed three points, but for entirely different reasons.

The Flying Donkeys sit in relegation zone with just nine points from 12 matches, but there are encouraging signs for Rolando Maran’s side as they have picked up five points in their last three games and performed admirably last weekend away to Udinese, coming from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw.

Their opponents Lazio were thrashed 3-0 by Juventus at home, that coupled with a 2-1 defeat to Empoli the week before, has left Stefano Pioli’s men in sixth place in the Serie A table with 19 points.

The last time these two sides met was in February this year, with Lazio coming away with a 2-0 win at the same venue. In fact, Lazio have won their last seven away matches against Chievo in all competitions. Contrastingly, Chievo have failed to win nine of their last 10 matches in Serie A.

Maran will have his entire squad available after Riccardo Meggiorini served his suspension, while Ervin Zukanovic is expected to start at full-back after being fielded in the centre of defence in recent weeks. Meanwhile Albano Bizzarri is expected to keep his place in goal ahead of youngster Francesco Bardi.

Stefano Mauri should be back for Lazio, after struggling with injury, and is likely to start with Filip Djordjevic coming in ahead of Miroslav Klose. Ogenyi Onazi will cover for the suspended Senad Lulic in midfield, though Alvaro Gonzalez is also an option.

Expected Starting XIs

Lazio: Marchetti, Basta, De Vrij, Radu, Braafheid, Parolo, Biglia, Onazi, Candreva, Djordjevic, Mauri

Cheivo: Bizzarri, Frey, Danielli, Cesar, Zukanovic, Izco, Radovanovic, Cofie, Birsa, Paloschi, Pellissier
