Juventus fansJohann Cruyff believes Italian football needs to follow the example of Juventus in order to modernise and revitalise calcio in the country.

The Old Lady are the only club in Italy to have built and run their stadium while every other team rents their grounds from the local authorities who own them. Any attempts to make necessary improvements are often held up by huge amounts of red tape, holding back vital development.

“Sometimes I look at the Italian league and Juventus are miles ahead because they have developed their own vision,” the former Dutch international told Sky Sport Italia.

“The Bianconeri have their own stadium and this makes a huge difference at a time of such crisis for the country and for football.

“Juventus have moved with the times.”

The Ajax and Barcelona legend also said Italian football has to remember the sport of football is about entertainment.

“Calcio has always been thought of alongside catenaccio, but now everything is visible and not just the result.

“That’s because everything is on TV. People want to have fun and be entertained.”
