Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis has revealed that he’s fully recovered from an injury he suffered earlier in the season and is ready to help the capital city club in their Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow on Tuesday.

The Giallorossi will be facing off with the Koni in Russia and will be looking to earn a victory in order to gain a stronger hold on second place in Group E, as they are currently tied with their hosts on four points but lead on goal difference, though the 37-year-old admits that the harsh climate may have a negative effect on the Italian side’s performance.

De Sanctis spoke during a pre-match press conference on Monday about his physical condition ahead of the meeting with CSKA Moscow and Roma’s season thus far, while also commenting on the extreme conditions that the Lupi could be facing in Russia.

“In the last two and half months we haven’t been very lucky in certain situations,” said the former Napoli man.

“Some of the things that happened have prevented us from working in a better position with a full team and managing our energy, among other things.

“There are a lot of things you can do with a full team that you can’t do when you’re lacking options. Taking this into consideration, I’d say that our first half of the season has been great thus far.

“During the international break the coach and I spoke about energy management. We agreed that in order to play every three days, you have to be at 200 per cent in the previous matches, and I was only at 100 per cent.

“It’s up to the coach to choose which games he wants me to play in, but not it has been two months since I suffered the injury against Hellas Verona and I’m fully recovered.

“One thing we have to consider in Moscow is the climate. In my career, I’ve often played in extreme conditions.

“The role of a goalkeeper is the most delicate because you’re extremities, like your hands and feet, suffer most from standing still.

“We will be trying to combat the cold, but it is clear that we also must be mentally prepared to deal with the conditions we may face on the pitch. We will take advantage of our practice time to test out the pitch.”
