After finally stepping out onto the Luigi Ferraris pitch on Monday night, Genoa attacker Giannis Fetfatzidis has thanked the people that helped during a four month layoff with injury, although admitting he struggled against Palermo.

The 23-year-old hasn’t played a competitive match since featuring in the goalless draw in with Japan during the World Cup finals, where he was forced off after just 41 minutes and replaced by former Inter midfielder Giorgos Karagounis.

“I struggled and I realized that,” Fetfatzidis admitted to Genoa’s official website.

“It could have been better, but I’m glad because it is a point from which to start and I have finally got there.

“With the passage of time my condition will grow, it is important to have solved the [injury] problems.

“I thank those who helped me and stood by me.”

The youngster joined the Rossoblu from Olympiakos for €4m and in his 31 Serie A appearances showed plenty of promise to believe coach Gian Piero Gasperini will be keen to reintegrate with the squad.
