Fiorentina wing-back Marcos Alonso was in a exuberant mood following his side’s 2–1 away win over Hellas Verona.

It was centre-back Gonzalo Rodriguez who gave La Viola the lead in the first half before Verona’s forward Nicolas Lopez equalized. However, Juan Cuadrado’s strike on 62 minutes proved to be difference as Fiorentina earned their first away victory in Serie A since September.

“[Andrea] Mandorlini’s team played a very tight game so we had to play on the flanks,” said Alonso at the post-match conference.

“So it was important to regularly assist the forwards from the wings.”

The 23-year-old who provided the assist for both the goals reinstated the need to keep up the good work and maintain the focus within the squad.

“Now we have to keep working hard because this result could be a really important one.”

Vincenzo Montella’s men are currently 10th in Serie A and on 16 points, tied with Inter ahead of Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina clash.
