Inler - NapoliGokan Inler insisted Napoli have got to improve after “throwing away” two points in their 3-3 draw with Cagliari at the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday.

The Partenopei led 2-0 (the Swiss star getting the second goal with a fizzing long range drive) and 3-2 but still could not close the game out and had to settle for a point against Zdenek Zeman’s resilient Isolani.

“This is a negative result for us because we had the game in our hands but then threw away two points,” a clearly annoyed Inler said to Sky Sport Italia.

“We created a lot but still let them get back into it despite almost having the game won. We need to grow and improve and get rid of these goals.

“Cagliari pushed and pressed very high high in the first half as well as the second but we could not see the game out and with this pressure, we made the game complicated. They equalised and we really have to think about ourselves and look to improve.”

The question was then put to Inler about Napoli’s mental strength and would championship chasing Juventus or Roma throw away points in such a manner from winning positions.

“When you are 2-0 up, this should not happen and perhaps mentally, we did relax a bit,” he shrugged. “There are still many matches to go and we must think only of ourselves and not about Juve or Roma.

“We have wasted a lot of points and we are sorry about those and we must look ahead and try to win the next one.”
