Former Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has been sacked by Galatasaray less than six months after replacing fellow countryman Roberto Mancini in the Turkish capital.

The club from Istanbul currently sit third in the Super Lig just a point behind Istanbul rivals Besiktas and Fenerbahce, however, the 57-year-old has paid the price for some uninspiring displays in the Champions League where they sit bottom of Group D.

Fanatik are reporting that club officials have spent the day in discussions over the Italian’s work and have decided to terminate his contract, with former Brazilian goalkeeper Claudio Taffarel expected to take over on a temporary basis.

Prandelli’s side fell to an embarrassing 2-0 defeat to Anderlecht that ended their European involvement for the season, with the Belgians securing a Europa League place as Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have already secured passage to the next round.
