gasperiniGenoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini was happy with his team’s performance in their 1-1 draw with Cagliari in Serie A.

The Grifoni dominated possession 54 per cent to 46 and Gasperini believed that his team was good enough to win the game.

“The performance was very good, especially in the first half,” Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are improving every game [and] it was a shame to have a deficit because we had to use a lot of energy to get back into the game.

“The team’s performance was very good [and] perhaps we could have been more precise in attack. In the final ten minutes we suffered, although we had an opportunity at the end with [Maxime] Lestienne.”

Genoa nearly lost the match after Stefano Sturaro gave away a penalty and got sent-off but Mattia Perin saved the vital penalty.

“His save was decisive. Mattia is a very important player,” Gasperini concluded.
