Gian Piero Gasperini was happy Genoa’s performance in the 1-1 draw with Palermo and is somewhat surprised to see his side so far up the Serie A standings.

The home side went behind early on thanks to a stunning Paulo Dybala strike, but Andrea Bertolacci levelled on 30 minutes to ensure the points were shared. However the Grifone coach feels his side should have had a penalty late on.

“From the pictures it seemed like a clear penalty,” he told Sport Mediaset.

“it was a good game overall, Dybala’s goal complicated things a little and put us in trouble.

“We made a few mistakes that allowed Palermo to come close to doubling their lead.

“On the other hand we lacked that final tough which could have meant we lost the game.

“We weren’t expecting to be in fifth place in the Serie A table, especially with performances like this, but we are satisfied.

Looking at some of the player performances, Diego Perotti particularly impressed, while Alessandro Matri and Maurico Pinilla played together for a short time in the second half, before the former was removed.

“Perotti has come to us after a difficult two years,” the tactician continued, “We have taken a gamble and hope to have a very good player in return.

“I took Matri off as we were struggling with two strikers on the field, so I wanted to go back to the formation we had in the first half.”
