Palermo and Genoa played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Stadio Ferraris on Monday evening in Serie A.

Paulo Dybala opening the scoring for the Rosanero after just seven minutes with his fifth goal of the season, only for Andrea Bertolacci to level for the Grifone midway through the first half.

The home side looked to stamp their authorirt on the game early on but were stunned by a superb Dybala striker.

Cutting in from the left side, the young Argentinian curled an effort round Mattia Perin from just inside the penalty area.

That didn’t affect the home side too much as they continued the way they started, and did have the ball in the back of the net, but the ball went out of play just before Alessandro Matri back-heeled into the net.

Genoa though, were susceptible to the counter-attack and a good block from Perin first denied Achraf Lazaar, before Dybala smacked the follow-up against Giovanni Marchese.

However, Bertolacci brought the Grifone level on the half-hour with an excellent low drive from the edge of the penalty area, after nicking the ball from Enzo Maresca.

Matri then played a brilliant reverse pass for Luca Antonelli to send him one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but the Genoa captain could only fire straight at Stefano Sorrentino.

Then, in an astonishing passage of play, Genoa were first denied at one end by Sorrentino, before Dybala suffered the same fate after racing clear on goal, watching in anguish as Perin tipped his delicate effort wide.

The second half started in much the same vein as the first, and once again it was Palermo who looked dangerous on the counter with Franco Vazquez smacking the post from long range.

Perin came to the rescue of Genoa once again, this time Michel Morganella crosses for Robin Quaison but his header was beaten away at close range by the Italian international.

Next up was Edgar Barreto, but this time his cross was headed wide by an unmarked Vazquez. At the other end Antonelli had a shot blocked by Geancarlo Gonzalez.

What followed was perhaps the miss of the season, as Mauricio Pinilla headed high over the bar from six yards out with the goal gaping.

Then, right at the death, Gonzalez was again the hero as he cleared Edenilson shot off the line. Before Pinilla header over in time added on.
