Marek Hamsik NapoliNapoli captain Marek Hamsik admitted his side played poorly in their goalless draw with Sparta Prague on Thursday evening, but asserted that the result was more important.

The Partenopei were uninspired in the match which saw their opponents twice strike the crossbar, but did enough with a draw to qualify to the knockout stages.

“We knew it would be tough to play here,” Hamsik told Mediaset at the end of the match, “the important thing was to get a result and we did.

“Now we want to win against Slovan [Bratislava] in order to finish first.

“In the first half, we played quite poorly but we recovered in the second half and tried to win the game with different attacks.”

Hamsik played the match in an unfamiliar left-sided role, but agreed he was happy to do so to help his team.

“We know that we are in trouble in that position; Benitez asked me to play on the wing and I did it, but we all know I’m better in the middle.”
