Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has admitted that the atmosphere around the Biscone has improved since the sacking of former head coach Walter Mazzarri.

Mazzarri was relieved of his duties last week with Roberto Mancini returning to the San Siro bench for a second spell in charge.

“I immediately felt that something had changed,” the 30-year-old told the Corriere dello Sport.

“There was certainly more enthusiasm and positivity.

“What went wrong with Mazzarri? I don’t know, it’s a difficult question to answer.

“Others were stronger than us and we haven’t done what we’ve needed to do.

“People judge results, and for Inter a draw is like a defeat.

“It’s normal that when the fans aren’t happy the atmosphere becomes oppressive, but if things don’t work out then it’s not just one person’s fault.”

Handanovic also urged Inter supporters to back the team once again as they prepare to face AC Milan on Sunday.

“It’s normal that the supporters are used to the Milan teams being great, and always have high expectations,” he continued.

“We need the enthusiasm of the fans. Things will return to normal.

“So, I say to them: ‘Don’t just go to the movies when Inter are playing!’.

“You have to come back to the stadium, because we need you.”
