Inter’s Joel Obi has stressed that speed is the name of the game under new coach Roberto Mancini, speaking after their 1-1 derby draw against AC Milan.

That is something that has been spoken of a lot in the Nerazzurri camp since Mancini returned and wanted to speak more about the new boss than his own point-winning strike.

“The coach continues to ask us to play the game simply, with one and two touches and to pass quickly,” he told Rai Sport. “We are a team that certainly have room for improvement but we are one who aim high.

“It was an important moment for me personally [the goal] and I was very happy to get that goal for Inter. We know that the most important thing for us as we look to improve is to listen to what the coach tells us, follow his ideas and work hard.”

The game saw Obi occupying a somewhat different role than he is usually accustomed to as he made up part of a central midfield trio along with Zdravko Kuzmanovic and Fredy Guarin, just behind Mateo Kovacic.

“That is my ideal role but I honestly enjoy any role where I can run and attack the space.”
