Lazio striker Miroslav Klose has underlined the importance of the support of Biancocelesti fans ahead of Saturday evening’s clash with Scudetto holders Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico.

Many of Lazio’s fans abandoned the stadium in the latter stages of last season in protest against club owner Claudio Lotito, and the German striker believes that the team will perform much better with their backing.

“We know that at home, with our fans behind us, we can play very well,” said Klose to Lazio Style Radio.

“This is a great squad and we must give the best account of ourselves, we have nothing to lose.

“The fans get us going a lot,  in other matches at the Olimpico we have heard a lot of noise coming from the crowd. We need our fans.

“Last year we experienced the sensation of playing in an empty stadium and we didn’t do well.

“All our players want the encouragement of the public.”

The 36-year-old also offered his opinion on the upcoming Ballon d’Or, which he believes should go to one of his World Cup-winning compatriots.

“I would give it to Manuel Neuer,” said the striker.

“It’s normal to talk about Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo being the best, but Manuel is a phenomenon.

“I hope he wins, I don’t know any better professionals. He is incredible.”
