After HJK Helsinki defeated Torino 2-1 in the Europa League, Finnish midfielder Robin Lod feels his side were hungrier for the win than the Italians.

Goals from Gideon Baah and Valtteri Moren gave the home side their first victory and first goals in the competition at a chilly Sonera Stadium on Thursday evening.

“It was a very tight game and Torino weren’t as good as they played at home,” Lod exclusively told Forza Italian Football.

“We didn’t have any chance in the away game, but today we played well and got the three points.

“We wanted the win more than Torino. We had good spirt on the field and the set-pieces made the difference today.”

Baah’s opener was the first goal HJK had scored in the group stage of the competition this season, and something of a relief for the Finnish side.

“It was amazing that we had played three games and hadn’t scored,” the 21-year-old midfielder said. “It was a brilliant feeling when we scored.

“I think we have good self confidence to play the two last games and get something from them.”
